Harmony House
The only second-stage women's shelter in Ottawa, Ontario
Our Programs and Services
Harmony House offers a number of programs and services for residents and their children. Many of these programs and services are also open to former residents.
Foodbank
Harmony House holds a weekly foodbank program for residents and ex-residents. On average, 20 to 25 families participate weekly.
We receive deliveries from the Central Ottawa Foodbank. We also receive funding to purchase extra items to supplement our inventory.
Ex-Resident Support
We provide services to ex-residents of Harmony House. These services include:
- advocacy
- crisis intervention
- accompaniment
- information and referral
- development of safety plans
- women’s groups
Accessibility Outreach
We are developing a support group for disabled women who have experienced abuse.
Housing Support
Harmony House offers women additional support when planning their transition from the shelter back into the community. The housing support worker, for example, assists women in filling out housing applications and planning their move.
Women's Advocacy
We help residents find the resources they need to ensure financial, legal and emotional security. We promote residents’ safety, health, self-awareness, self-esteem and sense of community.
Family Support
We support moms and children at Harmony House by offering programs and services, such as:
- parenting support
- meetings for kids
- respite care
- Andrew Fleck Child Care Services
- family fun nights
- summer recreation
- an after school literacy program
- Going Green, an environmental program
We also offer individual and group counselling for moms and children. In partnership with our sister shelter, Nelson House, we offer specific groups for children who have witnessed violence while their moms are in a concurrent group.
