Services
Respite Care Respite care is available for a partial day on the weekends. Children who attend will participate in therapeutic programs and play activities. Children are provided a nutritious lunch and possibly a snack.
Food Bank This weekly program, sponsored by the Ottawa Food Bank services approximately 50 families (both residents and ex-residents) a month (on average 100 women and children) The Food Bank delivers fresh, frozen and canned goods which are distributed by a dedicated group of staff and volunteers.
Legal Advocacy This volunteer-based program provides residents of Harmony House and the community with advocates to assist them in their legal affairs. While these volunteers do not provide legal advice they will provide support and informed assistance in attending legal appointments, court, immigration hearings and filling out legal documentation. This program also runs a monthly drop-in where women can go to talk about their legal concerns.
Transitional Support This program offers to women additional support in planning out their options for after they leave Harmony House. The Transitional Support Worker (TSW) will assist women in filling out housing aspplications, looking at housing offers, and planning their move. Once she has moved out the TSW will stay involved for 3 months and assist the woman in building a stronger connection in her new community.
Women's Advocacy The Women's Advocate provides services to the women from the moment of application. She will interview the woman and maintain relationships with the referrring shelters. Once the women arrives the Women's advocate will assist her in finding the resources she needs to ensure her financial, legal and emotional security. The Womans advocate will also do political action in the community sitting on various committees and providing resources to other agencies.
