Harmony House is very proud to be
one of the recipients of funding from
the 2007 HOPE Volleyball
SummerFest.
We will be putting the money we
receive towards programs and
services for our ex-residents.
In return for the funding, we have to
provide 50 volunteers to help on the
day of the event, July 14. Our job is
staffing the parking lot. There are
two shifts: from 7 a.m. to noon, and
from noon to 5 p.m.
If you would like to volunteer at the
event in support of Harmony House,
please register as soon as possible at

HOPE (Helping Other People
Everywhere) is a volunteer-driven,
not-for-profit organization that raises
funds for community-based charities.
HOPE’s flagship Volleyball
SummerFest event, now in its
25th year, combines recreational
volleyball with live rock music. Each
year, more than 25,000 players and
spectators flock to Mooney’s Bay
Beach in Ottawa to set, bump and
help HOPE raise more than $6
million in support of more than
100 local charities.
Despite competing with a Senators-Ducks Stanley Cup
game on June 6, the third annual Harmony House golf
tournament was a great success.
Once again, the event was at the Chateau Cartier Golf
Resort in Gatineau. Stuntman Stu, co-host of “TGOR” on
the Team 1200AM, returned as our emcee and auctioneer.
(Stu was a busy guy that day, having to call the hockey
game as well!)
At this year’s event 100 golfers teed up in support of the shelter.
Thanks to their generosity and support, as well as that of our many sponsors,
we were able to raise over $30,000 in support of Harmony House programs.
Organizing a golf tournament of this size is a demanding
and complicated task, requiring significant investment of
time and enthusiasm on the part of our dedicated golf
committee. Special thanks go out to Joy Asbil-Lee,
Cynthia Dwyer, Linda Bruce, Eric Kalbfleisch and
Gordon Schwartz, Nicole Deschesne and Christine Irvine.
Stay turned for details
of the 4th Annual tournament which will be available early in 2008.

Once a year, over 90 local restaurants, caterers, wineries and breweries

Sipping for Harmony House:
Some 100 women came out Tuesday night for Lady in Red III, a wine- tasting
fundraiser in support of Harmony House.
The ladies sipped grape from
half-a-dozen Niagara wineries while raising money for the home that
shelters abused women and children who are survivors of violence. It
bridges the
gap between a crisis shelter and independent living.
Sommelier and Food Network host Stacey Metulynsky from Groovy Grapes
was on hand for some wine expertise, as was sommelier Mario Larochelle.
Among
the other guests were Amy Heron, president of the board, and organizer
Christine Irvine.
