What volunteers can expect

Harmony House believes that volunteers are a fundamental part of the services offered to abused women and their children. Volunteers complement the existing services and enable the program to provide intensive support to women. Involvement of volunteers increases community participation and community awareness about violence against women.

Volunteer rights

  • Have a sense of belonging
  • Be part of a team
  • Be carefully screened and placed
  • Receive initial and ongoing training
  • Have clear expectations of the job
  • Provide input into all facets of the program
  • Receive support/supervision
  • Receive regular feedback on their work
  • Be recognized in a meaningful way
  • Be provided with different challenges that are within their interests and abilities
  • Have individual needs respected

Volunteer responsibilities

  • Take the commitment seriously
  • Understand the requirements and duties before accepting
  • Participate fully in training
  • Be open to new learning and experiences
  • Provide input on the program
  • Respect the confidentiality of the agency and its clients
  • Participate in the supervision process
  • Share feelings about their needs and well-being
