November 25th is declared National Elimination of Violence Against Women by the UN

1999

1st Solicitation Letter sent out to community – raised $5400

1998

1st Donor Database was set up to track and receipt donations

1997

The Federal Family Violence Initiative reduces its funding from $136 million in 1991 to $30.7 million.

1995

Harris government stopped all funding to 2nd stage shelters.

1993

Statistics Canada conducted the first dedicated survey on violence against women. This survey was important because of the breadth and depth of the questions asked and because it established a baseline for understanding and monitoring physical and sexual violence against women in Canadian society.

1989

Harmony House acquired another 6 units from the city which would also allow for an onsite office space

Harmony House leased 10 apartment units from the city and moved 10 women and children into the new units!
